To have a balanced life, everything must be done in moderation…except for being productive! Being productive is one of the few things we can’t overdo – because the more productive we are, the more we accomplish, the more fulfilled we feel. And is there a such thing as feeling too fulfilled? We think not! We’ve got 4 ways to increase productivity in our daily lives, so we can keep on feeling on top of our task!
- Utilize the “Two Minute” rule
So, there’s this rule called the two minute rule, right? It was made for us procrastinators that find everything else in the world to do except for the actual things that need to be done! The idea is this: If you see a task or action that you know can be done in two minutes or less, do it immediately. completing the task right away actually takes less time than having to get back to it later. Those minutes we waste getting to another level on Candy Crush can be used to clean up our desk space!
- Be more proactive – not reactive
We find ourselves always doing what needs to be done in the moment – but what about doing what needs to be done before its due? Preparing for things we know will happen (or have a possibility of happening) actually makes us manage our time better, and leaves us more opportunities to do other things. For example, at the end of our work days, we can identify the first task you’ll work on the next day and set out the materials in advance.
- Track and limit how much time we’re spending on tasks
We may think we’re pretty good at gauging how much time we spend on various tasks. But research shows we don’t have a good gauge of that. There’s apps that can help by letting us know exactly how much time we spend on daily tasks, including social media, email, word processing, and apps. The more aware we are of the time we’re spending on tasks, the more we can begin to manage that time!
- Do the worst tasks first
To defeat procrastination, we need to learn to tackle our most unpleasant tasks first thing in the morning instead of delaying it until later in the day. This small victory will set the tone for a very productive day, and we’ve got the most annoying thing out the way! Mentally, we’ll be prepared for anything else we have to do for the day, since that huge roadblock is out of the way.
Staying productive and maximizing the time we have isn’t the easiest thing to do – and it’s something that has to be done for the rest of our lives if we want any peace of mind. But with these tips, there should be no problem in boosting how productive we truly can be!
